The OnSIP Polycom Boot Server serves the latest tested and verified firmware version and user settings.

Note: You should not use the boot server if you have multiple VoIP providers configured on your phone, as it provides a minimal configuration for OnSIP service that may cause problems for your other providers.

SECURITY ALERT (September 2011): Do NOT put phones on static IP addresses directly on the Internet. If there is no other option, you must at least disable port 80 (WWW) inbound to any phone device. If this precaution is not taken, Junction Networks is not liable for any charges you may incur due to access to the phones.

Security Update (10/01/12) : All Polycom phones that reboot on our boot server will now be given a new web admin password. To view the password for a phone, log in to the OnSIP admin portal, select Resources, and choose from the resources of type Phone. You can set your own password if you check the 'Set Your Own Password' checkbox. If you do, we highly recommend that you change your password to something other than the factory default of '456' for your protection.

Note: (April, 2012) The current version of software on the boot server is 4.0.2b.

Step 1: Locate the MAC address of your Polycom phone

Press Menu on your Polycom phone. Then Status (2), Platform (1), and Phone (1)

The "S/N:" field is your MAC address. It should start with "0004f2" and be a total of 12 digits. On the same screen, please note your Model as well. This information can also be found on the bottom of the phone.

For Polycom 3xx

Press Menu on your Polycom phone. Then choose Settings, and Advanced. Enter your password; the default password is '456'. Hit the 'Enter' soft key when done.

Please note that if you're running a firmware version prior to 3.0 or a BootROM version prior to 4.1.3, your phone will be formatted during the upgrade and you will have to reconfigure your user settings, including the line configuration unless you have entered the MAC address of the phone into the OnSIP interface.

Note: if you are running a version of the firmware that does not support HTTP, you will have to point your phone to tftp.onsip.com as the Server Address and TFTP as the Server Type.

Note: boot.onsip.com is located on our content network at 199.7.172.x. Please ensure that port 80 traffic is available for this address range.

For Server type you have to press the right arrow on the phone. It's not on the side of the phone.

Select "Exit" and "Save Configuration and Reboot". The reboot process may take up to 30 minutes on older phones, if a firmware upgrade is required.

To do the above on the Polycom 335 you will need to toggle the left arrow a couple of times to get to point where you will be asked to exit then "Save Configuration and Reboot."

Are there any plans on updating the BootROM image past 4.1.3? Perhaps to 4.2.2?

Hi Nik --

Unfortunately, we're limited to the highest BootROM image that all phone models that boot off of our boot server can support. The oldest Polycom phones that we support on the boot server (the 501 era phones) cannot boot anything more modern than 4.1.4. We have more leeway with the SIP application itself and can (and do) serve a more modern version to phones that can support it.

That is odd. I have only not seen HTTP in firmware versions previous to 2.1.2 give issues with that. Could you call into our support queue so they could give you a hand?

Try all four arrow keys. Sometimes using the arrow in only one direction "stops" the choice at FTP and doesn't loop around to the other options.

It turns out if you look at page 3-5 of the admin guide, you can enter http://boot.onsip.com (note the protocol at the beginning.) This worked for downloading updates.
