Sending Calls directly to Voicemail

Summary

Problem #1: A user leaves for lunch and they want calls to their extension to go directly to voicemil. Solution Summary: To send calls coming into your extension directly to voicemail use the 'Do Not Disturb' or 'DND' button on your VOIP phone.

Problem #2: You want to transfer a call directly to another user's voicemail. Solution summary: Yes, under Resources create an extension for their voicemail box.

Problem #1 - Details

In order to send calls directly to voicemail there are two options:
1.) If you are going to be out of the office for a few days, contact your account administrator and have them simply redirect your extension directly to your voice mail box. Upon your return, have them return your extension to your phone.

2.) To temporarily send all calls to voice mail, first, check your settings under 'My Inbound Call Preferences.' It should say:
Ring: 20 seconds
then send to: My voice mailbox (where 'My' is replaced by your name.)

If it does not, contact your account administrator.
If it does, to forward calls directly to voicemail simply hit the 'Do Not Disturb' or 'DND' button on your phone. This will cause your phone to immediately reject all calls which will call OnSIP to follow your 'Inbound Call Preferences' and forward the call to your voice mailbox.

Problem #2 - Details

In order to send calls directly to a user's voicemail box, that voicemail box must have a direct dial extension. To add an extension to a voicemail box, log into the OnSIP admin portal and choose the 'Resources' tab. Then, choose the 'voice mailboxes' filter (little white box) at the top of the list to see all the voicemail boxes on the system. Give each voicemail box it's own extension.

For example, if the extension for the user is 7001, you can create an extension for their voicemail box that is 7701. Do the same for all extensions. Then, if you know someone's extension, just by changing the third digit to a '7' you then know the direct transfer extension for their voicemail box.

You can also do this for cell phones. Cell phone numbers can be added into the system as External Phone Numbers under Resources. They, too, can have extensions. They could maybe be the '9' extension. Then, when finished you could have user Sue Smith be extension 7001 for her phone, 7701 for direct transfer to voicemail and 7901 to send calls to her cell phone.
