Forward Calls to an Outside Phone Number

Summary

To forward calls to an outside phone number, use your VOIP phone's 'Forward' feature. First, make sure that your administrator has entered the outside number into the OnSIP system.

Details

In order to forward directly to and from outside phone number there are two options:
1.) If you are going to forward your extension for a few days, contact your account administrator and have them simply redirect your extension directly to the outside phone number. Upon your return, have them return your extension to your phone.

2.) To temporarily forward all calls to an outside phone number, first, check with your account administrator to ensure that they have created an 'External Phone Number' in the OnSIP interface. Next, on your VOIP phone, use its 'Forward' capability to forward calls to that phone to an outside phone number, e.g. your cell phone. Enter the external phone number into the phone. Upon your return to the office, disable the 'Forward' feature.

Note: If you have multiple phones registered to the same SIP address or if your phone is part of a group and you forward one of your phones or a phone that is part of a group the following applies:
On a branched call (a call to a group of phones or multiple phones registered to the same SIP address) if one of the phones responds with "call forwarded", we spawn a new branch to the requested forwarded location and that becomes simply another branch on the same call. The other devices continue to ring as well as the newly branched forwarded location. The call continues until any one of the branches accept the call (pick up) OR the call timeout is reached. If any phone accepts the call, that device gets the call and a cancel is sent to all the other devices. If the call timeout is reached before any device picks up the call, a cancel is sent to all devices and the call is sent to the timeout destination.
