Web Engineer - New York City (Financial District)

Junction Networks seeks a software engineer for full-time employment specializing in the web development stack, from browser to database.
Company:
  • We provide Internet based VoIP services to small and mid-sized businesses with our award-winning product, OnSIP.
  • Our small company is innovative, profitable, and quickly growing.
  • Junction Networks is managed by Internet veterans who previously built one of the largest Internet Service Providers in New York City, Interport Communications, before being purchased by RCN in the late 1990's.
Position:
  • Expert in web engineering technologies
  • As part of a small team, we are looking for people who can do it all - research to release.
Responsibilities:
  • Designing and implementing solutions for all of the OnSIP web portals: www.onsip.com, signup.onsip.com, admin.onsip.com, my.onsip.com, and more.
  • Solving problems as part of a team that works hard to make the company successful.
Requirements:

The most important requirement is that you seriously love building in browser based technologies. Web technologies are growing at an extremely fast pace, so we are looking for people whose hobby it is to stay current with the development landscape.

  • An expert's grasp of web technologies is essential. HTML, CSS, and some jQuery barely scratch the surface of the basics.
  • A commanding knowledge in the following areas is a MUST:
    • Web architectures, including scaling web and database server deployments
    • More than adept with Apache, Lighttpd, Nginx, YAWS, or any other major web server
    • HTTP. HTTP is one of our big 3 protocols (SIP and XMPP are the other 2).
    • Javascript! We LOVE Javascript. Knowing how, when, and why to use it effectively is key.
    • Several years of experience in at least one server side scripting language is a must (PHP, Ruby, Python, Perl, etc...)
    • Browser security model
    • SEO techniques
    • An utter disdain for terms like "Web 2.0" and "the cloud"

Other big pluses include some relevant experience or in depth knowledge in several of the following areas (the more the better):

WhatWG (stuff on these pages), Twisted, Ruby on Rails, GWT, Sproutcore, Go (the Google language), SIP, XMPP, Jingle, bosh, Cappuccino, coffee script, web sockets, comet, cross domain XHR, jsonP, non-relational databases (CouchDB, Cassandra, Redis, MongoDB, etc..), relational databases, Google Analytics, gdata APIs, OAuth, OpenID, Atom, RSS, Atum Pub, Pubsubhubbub, Webhooks, CMS experience (Drupal, Joomla, Wordpress, etc...), and everything else under the sun that makes up the current web ecosystem.

Advanced usage with Git is a huge plus

The ideal candidate could install a full LAMP stack (maybe not the Linux part) without blinking, scoffs at tools of the status quo like cPanel, XAMP, and PHPMyAdmin, and could teach something new to several people who consider themselves experts in some of the above technologies.
